Uncle Elmo and John Hardy are two characters that star in many of the short text stories that serve as back-ups in the comic book series Popeye. However, these characters are unrelated to Popeye himself or to any other Segar creations.
In the stories, Uncle Elmo would narrate tall tales to his nephew John Hardy, recounting his own incredible adventures, weird discoveries or amazing inventions. John, in turn, would point out the more dubious elements from the anecdote.
