The United States Navy is the naval warfare branch of the United States Armed forces, and the largest navy in the world. In 1941, on the occasion of World War II, it was deemed appropriate that, as a sailor, Popeye (along with Bluto) would join its ranks and serve aboard a battleship. Shorty is another fellow member of the force, and in the revised Popeye Special continuity, both Wimpy and Brutus are portrayed as Navy servicemen as well.
