"The Delmonica Diamond" is an episode from The All-New Popeye Hour's "Popeye's Treasure Hunt" segment for Hanna-Barbera Productions in association with King Features Syndicate. It first aired on September 23, 1978 and was directed by George Gordon, Carl Urbano and Rudy Zamora. Popeye was voiced by Jack Mercer, Olive Oyl was voiced by Marilyn Schreffler and Bluto was voiced by Allan Melvin.
Plot[]
On the island country of Delmonica, the crown jewel was stolen and replaced with a fake. The queen needs a true treasure hunter to return it. She sends her men out to find the right man.
The queen's men arrive at Popeye & Olive Treasure Seekers Ltd. and Bluto's Fortune Finding as the owners begin to argue again. To make their job easier, they throw a net over everyone to fly back to Delmonica. At the palace, the queen explains that the gem is not only valuable but the symbol of her leadership. It must be returned before it can be used to gain power over the kingdom.
Both Popeye and Bluto race into the jungle to find the thief. Bluto tries to slow him and Olive by destroying their boat, but they continue down the river on the backs of crocodiles. Bluto then tries to stop them by trapping them in quicksand, but a monkey helps them out after it eats Popeye's spinach.
After that, Bluto finds the thief and learns that the diamond has the power to control the animals. Bluto follows the thief and his animal army up a volcano to get it for himself. Popeye spots them and heads for the top of the volcano too.
The thief turns his animals on Popeye, so he eats his spinach and then uses animals against him. Popeye recovers the Delmonica Diamond and returns it to the queen.
