Popeye the Sailor: 1941-1943, Volume 3 is the third officially licensed DVD collection of theatrical Popeye cartoons, released by Warner Home Video on November 4, 2008.[1]

Continuing where the second volume left off, this two-disc collection contains the 32 remaining black-and-white Popeye cartoons, from the first 1941 entry, Problem Pappy, to the final black and white short, Cartoons Ain't Human from 1943. This set covers the transition from Fleischer Studios to Famous Studios, with the first 18 shorts being produced by the former studio, and the remaining 14 by the latter.

Initially, Volumes 2 and 3 were meant to be a single four-disc set (much like Volume 1), collecting the remaining black and white Popeye cartoons (as well as the color two-reel special Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp) - and with Volumes 3 and 4 collecting the color Famous Studios cartoons from the 1943 to 1957.[2] However, due to the global financial crisis of 2007-2008, the proposed second volume was reworked into a series of two-disc sets.[3][4]

This set is notable for containing substantially more politically incorrect content that the previous sets, including World War II propaganda shorts and negative depictions of Japanese people. Like the previous sets, all the cartoons are presented uncut and digitally restored, with each disc beginning with a disclaimer warning about potentially offensive content. Like the previous volumes, the set also featured a plethora of bonus material, including audio commentaries, behind the scenes featurettes, and rare vintage material.

Due to the recession in the late 2000s, Popeye the Sailor: 1941-1943, Volume 3 was not a financial success. This, combined with the higher costs of restoring color cartoons, caused plans for future Popeye sets to be scrapped.[4] A decade later, Warner Archive Collection began releasing the color Popeye cartoons with the Popeye the Sailor - The 1940s Blu-Ray series, beginning in 2018.[4]
