Popeye the Sailor: 1938-1940, Volume 2 is the second officially licenced DVD collection of theatrical Popeye cartoons, released by Warner Home Video on June 17, 2008.[1]
Continuing where the first volume left off, this two-disc set collects the next 31 Fleischer Studios Popeye cartoons in chronological order: from 1938's I Yam Love Sick until the final 1940 cartoon, Popeye Presents Eugene, the Jeep.
Initially, the set was intended to be four discs, collecting the remaining 62 black-and-white Popeye cartoons as well as the color two-reel special Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp (1939).[2] However, following the global financial crisis of 2007-2008, this proposed second volume was split into two separate two-disc collections, with Popeye the Sailor: 1941-1943, Volume 3 being released later that same year.[3][4]
As with Volume 1, all the cartoons are presented uncut and digitally restored (with the original Paramount Pictures logos re-instated), and accompanied by numerous bonus features, including audio commentaries, documentary featurettes and other rare vintage material.
