Popeye the Robot

"Popeye the Robot" is an episode from The All-New Popeye Hour's "The Adventures of Popeye" in association with King Features Syndicate. It first aired on November 26, 1979 and was directed by Ray Patterson and Carl Urbano. Popeye was voiced by Jack Mercer, Olive was voiced by Marilyn Schreffler, Bluto was voice by Allan Melvin and Wimpy was voiced by Daws Butler.

Plot[]

It is 'National Popeye Day', and Bluto is out to ruin it and Popeye once and for all. For he has created a robotic Popeye to take the real one's place and ruin the ceremony at the stadium.

Meanwhile, the real Popeye is at home getting ready for the ceremony. Bluto arrives to keep him from getting there, first by locking and barricading his door, and putting a moat around his house. Then he throws Popeye in the trash and finally delivers him to the city dump.

Back at the stadium, the robot Popeye does tricks unsuccessfully, just as Bluto planned it. Finally, the ceremony ends when the robot unveils a giant Popeye statue, throws away the can of spinach that came with it and beats up the statue.

However, unbeknownst to both Bluto and his robot, the can of spinach has landed at the city dump, where Popeye proceeds to eats the vegetable. He arrives at the stadium, fixes the statue of himself and takes care of Bluto by throwing the spinach at him. At the same time, the robot malfunctions and breaks down.
