Plot[]
The episode begins with Popeye doing some spring cleaning as Olive arrives to invite him to a cross-country bicycle race. Popeye accepts and takes his bike out of the garage, but the bike is so broken down, Olive thinks he should ride it to the junkyard. Still, after Olive rides away, clever Popeye adds some spare parts including a goat head to bike and later joins Olive for the race. But Bluto, whom Olive just wished good luck to (though he claims to need no luck to win), ties a rope to her bike's wheel, guaranteeing that she will not get too far.
The race finally begins and Olive loses her wheels in the process. Meanwhile, Popeye's bike falls apart, leaving only the wheels for Popeye to hold on to. Bluto, now leading, literally smokes the the competition and opens a bridge, causing all others to fall into the river.
After Popeye emerges from the water, he goes to a nearby gas station to fix his bike. He is about to ride again when Bluto sneaks up from behind and inflates his sailor suit. Popeye floats into the air until he comes in contact with the pointy roof of a church, causing him to deflate and fall back down, and take the lead. This is however cut short when Bluto surpasses him, messing up his hand signal and sending him backwards.
Olive tries to pass Bluto, but the latter blows her away with his fan, which almost flies Olive off her bike. Olive eventually regains control as Popeye slingshots his way back into the race and first place.
The three then come to a cornfield. There, Bluto cuts Popeye's back wheel off, causing dirt to fly into Olive's face. Olive's handlebars then break off, and she rides out of control. Popeye, who now drives his bike while on foot, tails her in an attempt to rescue her. They go so fast that they even fly the clothes off a scarecrow and the feathers off a crow. The chase leaves Olive on train tracks and Popeye on a mill wheel.
While on the wheel, Popeye picks up a lobster to open his can of spinach. He then uses the mill wheel as his new bike. In an attempt to save Olive, they both crash into an oncoming train and use it to catch up to Bluto. The big man sees them coming and tries to get away, but Popeye and Olive catch up, then Bluto's bike is diminished into a tricycle. Popeye and Olive win the race, and Bluto gets flat tires in defeat.
