Nancy Jean Cartwright (born October 25, 1957) is an American film and television actress, comedian and voice artist. She is best known for her long-running role as the voice of Bart Simpson on the animated television series The Simpsons.
During her years at UCLA, Cartwright worked with Daws Butler and would often spend her afternoons at his house. After months of working together and having put together a basic demo tape, Butler felt Cartwright was ready to be introduced to Hanna-Barbera. Butler brought her along to a recording session for the newest Popeye television series, Popeye and Son, and she was given the role of Woody. Because of Butler's introduction, Nancy Cartwright soon found herself auditioning for various animation houses in Los Angeles.
- For Woody, Cartwright uses a voice similar to that of Nelson Muntz (a character who appears in The Simpsons), only with a surfer dude accent.
