Popeye Candy Sticks Box - 41 - Yellow Box - Baseball - Front

Popeye Candy Sticks is a food product introduced by World Candies in 1990.

History[]

Candy cigarettes had been very popular since their creation in the late 19th Century. However, many believed they led children to like cigarettes and become smokers as adults, so said candies were eventually banned around the world, except in the US. World Candies sold a similar variation named Candy Sticks, with the boxes displaying images of cartoon characters instead of resembling cigarette packs like the older product's. Boxes can be found featuring Warner Bros. properties (Tom and Jerry, DC Superheroes, Scooby-Doo, The Flintstones) as well as others such as Spider-Man and Popeye.

Popeye boxes[]

  • The Popeye Candy Sticks boxes, at least in the 1990 series, feature a picture of Popeye playing a sport or something else iconic in American culture.
  • The back of the box features a 3-panel comic strip. Many, if not all, of the boxes are numbered.
  • The boxes also feature a joke/riddle under the comic strip that is answered/ends on the bottom flap attached to the front.
