"Astro-Nut" is a 1960 episode of Popeye the Sailor.
Plot[]
Popeye volunteers to be the test subject for the space capsule and must remain inside for the next 60 days. as he begins the test, he listens to the voices of his friends over the tape recorder. However, as soon as Popeye hears Brutus boasting about keeping company for Olive while the sailor is away, he begins to sulk from the thought of Brutus being alone with his girlfriend.
Meanwhile, Brutus and Olive start spending time together. They go swimming to the community pool, driving down a hill, watching the horse race with Brutus pretending to be a good loser but also secretly stealing Olive's money out of her purse, and going on a rollercoaster ride. Back at the space station, Popeye thinks about breaking out of the space capsule, but realizes he would be abandoning his duty as a test subject. Hearing Brutus' voice on the recorder enrages Popeye, causing the capsule to rumble, until he calms down. He has to find ways to occupy himself within the capsule. However, listening to Brutus' boastful voice and taunting laughter one more time is the last straw for Popeye. The rumbling of the capsule makes his Instant Spinach cans to leak out, therefore causing the capsule to launch into space at the speed of light.
Back at the Space Test Lab, two men notice that Popeye's space capsule has taken on spinach power. They discuss how the capsule's hyper speed will cause Earth time to shift into reverse while the craft continues to travel forward at 60 times normal. All of Brutus and Olive's activities get reversed as the space capsule safely returns to Earth as 60 days are finally up. After being congratulated for a job well done, Popeye modestly states that it was spinach power that did the trick. Just as the spacefaring sailor happily walks out, he finds the confused and peeved Brutus musing that he did not get to spend a minute with Olive. Then Olive comes in only to say that 60 days seemed like only 60 minutes to her. Popeye sings his theme song and has some Instant Spinach as the cartoon ends.
